In 2015, the new electrical class formats for propane appliances have been released by NPGA and PERC, and the new classes have been broken into three separate segments with three certification tests. The 4.4 class focuses on basic electrical theory as it relates to propane appliance circuits. Students will learn about Ohm’s law, Watt’s law, how to measure resistance, current flow and voltage. There are numerous hands on labs that will allow students to use electrical meters and to apply electrical theory. They also will learn electrical symbols and how to read basic wiring diagrams. Students are encouraged to bring their own electrical tools and meters to class; however, some loaner tools will be available.

Note: The second class 4.5 focuses on more advanced theory and includes how the mechanical components relate and interact with the electrical components. Students will learn how to trouble shoot the appliance in respect to both the electrical and mechanical systems. (This class will be taught in 2016.) The third class has not be developed to date but will be an advanced electrical class geared to seasoned service technicians with a good working knowledge of electrical troubleshooting techniques.

Price includes book, exam, continental breakfast and lunch.
